Behold! A new musical message of Love and Beauty from Farmer Dave & the Wizards of the West (FDWOW). It’s “one from the heart this time” with “Flesh and Blood” & “Snake Eyes”. Recorded at County Line Studios with Kyle Mullarky (Babe Rainbow, Allah Las , King Gizzard), this new double A side single is a blast of fresh sea air, evoking the cliffside ocean mountains surrounding the studio where it was recorded. There is a new dimension of depth and feeling in these latest tunes… Farmer Dave and crew have brought a new “chance to dance again”… and melt your heart at the same time.
Written by Farmer Dave on a rainy night after a poignant phone call with a dear cousin on the occasion of their 40th birthday, “Flesh and Blood” captures the feeling of that fateful conversation with finely choreographed emotional potency. The opening line “A robot could stain wood, could it even write this song?” captures the spirit of these times as the realities of AI come more into the public conversation. Words “Whale sails through the azure seas / and the birds fly high now in the trees” underpin the song’s sentiments with reminders of Nature’s cycles and beauty, bringing heart and connection to the story, while musically, the band’s deep “all in” commitment to the message makes “Flesh and Blood” a strong and beautiful musical statement. “Snake Eyes” takes the FDWOW sound to the next level, a full force multidimensional dance party track featuring music and lyrics co-written by the band and forged in the fire of their live sets. “The band’s upgraded the psychedelic head trip with some full body/emotional bliss out, connecting the heart, mind, body, and soul, tugging on your heart strings with the celebration of the love between all things. “Snake Eyes” features blistering guitar by Ben Knight, the vocal recording debut of drummer Chad “The Nightstnake” Marshall, and a shout out to The Sneak (Ben’s dog, “Lola”, known for the tendency to snatch any unattended sandwich), all set to a heavy dance groove. “Snake Eyes” is a cinematic and high energy track which brings a heady up-tempo West Coast psych feel while hearkening to the pie-eyed dance songs of rave-era Manchester and Glasgow.
Coming out on Curation Records worldwide Fall 2023, “Flesh and Blood” / “Snake Eyes” will take you on a musical ride… buy the record // take the trip !!!!

I waited to hear the whole thing on vinyl, and this is an outstanding LP! I'm still rather obsessively looping "Don't Lose Your Soul," which just happens to blend aspects of what I've been listening to lately: Stone Roses, Rain Parade, The Verve. Lovely, lovely, psychedelic track. Better yet, the whole album holds up to sustain a wonderful vibe. Looking forward to returning to this sonic space again and again! Trace Reddell
